Locations In Greece You’ll Recognize From The Background Of “Mamma Mia the Movie”
Most people think that the famous “Mamma Mia the Movie” was shot entirely on Santorini Island, when, in fact, there were several locations used as a background in the movie.
Skiathos Island
One will definitely recognize the island of Skiathos as the place where young Sophie was writing letters to her fathers. The beautiful piece of land that flies under the tourist radar is considered one of the most popular vacation destinations among the locals. The Harbor of Skiathos is the very place where Pierce Brosnan tried to catch the last ferry in attempts to make it to Sophie’s wedding in time.
Skopelos Island
Perched on a rock in the azure sea, the magnificent Church of Agios Ioannis sto Kastri is now a popular tourist attraction due to the fact that it is the place where Sky and Sophie as well as Donna and Sam exchanged vows. The church is located on Skopelos Island, near the town of Glossa. You may reach the place by car or take a ferry-boat (click here to see the map).
Kastani Beach
The beach Sky and Sophie were walking along is called Kastani. It is situated here. Unfortunately, the area is not as deserted as you might think. However, it is definitely worth traveling to see, since real-life Kastani Beach is even more beautiful than the one portrayed in the movie.
