Corsica. France. Romance
First of all, the Island of Corsica is famous as a place of birth of the French Emperor and a great commander Napoleon Bonaparte. And what is it like – the motherland of Napoleon?
If you want to describe Corsica in one word, it would be “many-sided”, what means this island charms with the diversity of its views. They are presented by endless vineyards, picturesque hills, pine woods and romantic, pensive bays. Looking at the photos taken from the bird’s-eye view, you may notice that the island presents the land of mountain peaks. This amazing interlacement of forbidding rocks and vivid hills often hides small lakes, fast rivers and beautiful waterfalls. But if you want to admire the Sanguinaires Islands, you’d better choose a sunset time. Actually, Corsica is so rich in amenities and so manifold, that it seems that this place reflects the magnificence of all Europe. The Greeks called this island Callista, not without reason, what is translated like «beautiful».
The capital of Corsica is the city of Ajaccio, where Napoleon was born. There is a museum telling the story of his dramatic life, full of highs and lows, depicted on canvas, tapestries, works of applied art. Besides, you can visit the cathedral where Napoleon was baptized, and the Bonaparte’s residence. Even the streets are named in honor of the Emperor and members of his family.
